Dermot Mulroney‘s dog, Maverick, has crossed the rainbow bridge, but the pup made sure to leave this world with a bang.
The little pooch, who made Mulroney, 54, smile for 22 years, won the hearts of the world right before his death.
Maverick accompanied Mulroney to an interview on Animal Planet’s Animal Nation with Anthony Anderson earlier this year, and he instantly stole the show. The audience could not contain their “awws” for the tiny, furry senior.
Unfortunately, Mulroney revealed to PEOPLE Now, Maverick died shortly after that appearance.
“He was really on his last leg for that show,” Mulroney said.

The Chihuahua is now immortalized in a YouTube video of the interview, which has over 200,000 views.
“I believe it is because of the Chihuahua lovers of the world, not because of people like me,” Mulroney remarked on why the clip attracted so much attention.
While losing a pet is always hard, Mulroney understands that it was time for the blind, deaf and toothless Maverick to go.
“We loved that dog for a long time,” he said.
